Environmental/Waste Regulations
Recovered paper and plastics are governed by a wide range of waste regulations covering transfrontier shipments. These regulations place a considerable duty of care on all parties involved in the collection, processing and sale of such products on a national and international level.
A selection of the most important regulations are detailed below:
• Basel Convention
• Environmental Protection Act
• OECD C(2001)107/Final - Control of Transboundary Movement of Wastes Destined for Recovery Operations
• European Waste Codes
• EU Landfill Directive - 1999/31/EC
• Producer Responsibility Obligations
(Packaging Waste) Regulations 1997
• European Waste Catalogue
• Commission Regulation (EC) 801-2007
• Commission Regulation (EC) 1013-2006
• Commission Regulation (EC) 1418-2007
• Commission Regulation (EC) 740-2008
The above list is not exhaustive and all sellers/buyers of waste should satisfy themselves that they are complying with all national and international regulations.
